The condition can affect overall health and lead to conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, but it can also undermine weight loss goals, says nutritionist and Candida Diet founder Lisa Richards. This is because inflammation can cause metabolism to slow down.
Here are three types carbohydrate which can trigger inflammation and hinder weight loss according to dietitians.
1. White bread
Richard says that white bread is the main trigger inflammation, weight gain, and more. “White bread is made with refined carbohydrates and lacks fiber and other beneficial nutrients,” Richards said, quoted from She Finds, Sunday, June 5, 2022. Richards said bread also turns to sugar quickly, causing a short increase in glucose.

In addition, according to dietitian Amy Lee, white bread contains flour and sugar with high total carbohydrates of up to 20 grams per slice. “Often, it’s made with preservatives, wheat, and soy which many people are now ‘intolerant of’ and have side effects for high intakes of these ingredients.”
White bread is also a bad choice if trying to downgrade body weight. That’s because refined carbohydrates break down quickly, and your body stores them as fat.
2. Pasta
Pasta is one of the high-carb foods that can cause or worsen inflammation and weight gain. Richards says that our standard diet today contains more carbohydrates than our bodies need. Many of these carbohydrates come from processed foods such as pasta. “Even a lot of pasta today is processed and fortified which can lead to inflammation, digestive problems, and ultimately weight gain,” he warns.
3. Cereals high in sugar
Cereals high in sugar can lead to major health complications, including inflammation. “Lots [sereal] made with refined carbohydrates that can cause inflammation and turn into sugar quickly in the body,” says Richards. That’s why he recommends always checking ingredients and choosing options that don’t contain fortified flour or sugar which might be written as HFCS, fructose, sucrose. , caramel, sorghum syrup, invert sugar, castor sugar, cane juice, or agave nectar.
“Refined sugar can also cause inflammation and a source of empty calories that can hinder your health goals,” he warns.
There is no perfect diet. But if you are serious about avoiding inflammation and still want to lose weight, it’s better to avoid these three types of carbohydrates.
