3 Scenarios for the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian National team will play the decisive match against Nepal in Group A 2023 Asian Cup Qualification, Wednesday (15/6) morning WIB. Here are three scenarios for the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup.

The Indonesian national team is currently in second place in Group A ahead of the clash against Nepal at the Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium, Kuwait City. Shin Tae Yong’s side have three points, the same as Kuwait’s but head to head.

The current position in the standings makes the Indonesian national team obliged to go all-out in the match against Nepal. The hope is of course that the Red and White team can win with a landslide score over Nepal and the results of the match a few hours earlier between Jordan vs Kuwait are profitable for the Indonesian national team.

Here are three scenarios for the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup.

1. Be Group Champion

The Indonesian national team still has a chance to qualify as group A winners. The condition is that the Indonesian national team can win with a large goal margin over Nepal and Kuwait won 1-0 over Jordan.

If this happens, the Indonesian national team will come out as group winners, followed by Kuwait, which will qualify as runner-up. This can happen because all three teams have collected six points.

Determination of the position in the standings must be determined through the mini standings involving the Indonesian, Kuwaiti and Jordanian national teams. Points and goals scored against bottom team Nepal will not be counted.

That way, the Indonesian national team that won over Kuwait 2-1 and lost to Jordan 0-1 will have a goal difference of 2-2. Kuwait also has a similar goal difference but lost head to head, while Jordan has a goal difference of only 1-1.
