Claude Sautet atmosphere with an old-fashioned father, a father who would have seduced a chair, a father who is always broke, a father who knows all of Paris. He makes a very good character in a novel, but not necessarily a very good father in life. This father, he is old, he is sick… And now he asks his writer son to go and investigate his great-grandfather, who died a hero in 1914. “But what is it? what is this story? », said Thibault de Montaigu to himself. And us with it. Except that very quickly, we are hooked. This book is wonderfully written and what’s more, it asks a universal question: Are little boys obliged to follow in their father’s footsteps?
