3 more members of newly formed militant organization arrested in Meghalaya, were about to go for arms training

Shillong. Three more members of the newly formed insurgent organization ‘National Liberation Council of Nongkindong’ (NLCN) have been arrested from Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district. A senior police officer gave this information. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Davis R. Marak said that the first group of the organization was scheduled to leave for Nagaland on Thursday to undergo arms training. The Meghalaya Police had busted the extremist organization a day earlier on Wednesday by arresting six members.

Davis R. Marak told, ‘Three more people were arrested on Thursday during various operations. A self-styled commander of the area from East Khasi Hills district and two others from West Jaintia Hills district were arrested. The six people arrested on Wednesday were produced before a local court here on Thursday. The court sent him to police custody for eight days.

DIG Marak said that NLCN is suspected to have links with other insurgent organizations in Nagaland. The DIG said that the police received intelligence that a new militant organization was being formed for illegal activities. Acting on a tip-off, four top members of the organization and two cadres, including a woman, were arrested in the operations launched on Wednesday.

DIG Marak said that these people were going to send the first group of the organization to Nagaland on Thursday for arms training. A criminal case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered at the Crime Branch police station in Shillong’s Eastern Range. Those arrested include the self-styled President of NLCN, the ‘Commander in Chief’ of NLCN, the General Secretary and other top members.
