3 million euros of reported damage due to nake advertisements with Dutch celebrities

More than 300 people have been duped by scams promising wealth to people who put money into bitcoins. Together they suffered 3 million euros in damage, the Fraud Help Desk confirms after a message from Shownews.

Fraudsters placed advertisements on Facebook with photos of Dutch celebrities, such as John de Mol, Jort Kelder and Humberto Tan. In the advertisements, people were promised that “just like these celebrities” they could get rich with bitcoins. They had to transfer money, but saw nothing in return.

The amount of 3 million euros is the reported damage of more than 300 victims, says a spokesperson for the Fraud Help Desk. “The actual damage is probably much higher. Normally, about 10 percent of the victims report to us.”

John de Mol dragged last year Facebook for the judge. He demanded that the social medium exclude advertisements. The court asked him in the same, but Facebook appealed. The court must still rule.
