3 Inventions Made By Accident

Jakarta

These discoveries were made by accident. Even so, this discovery is important in the future.

Launching Pop Sci, Thursday (14/4/2022) the following three inventions were created by accident and ended well. Anyone want to add another discovery?

1. Kevlar

In 1965, DuPont chemist Stephanie Kwolek damaged a polymer intended to make lighter tires. His mistakes created Kevlar, a fiber five times stronger than steel.

Kevlar is an essential part of bulletproof vests, drums, and even racing canoes. From an accidental end to a super useful discovery, here.

2. Implantable pacemaker

Engineer Wilson Greatbatch started making a heart monitor but installed the wrong resistor. Instead of recording electrical impulses such as heartbeats, the gadgets generate electricity. This eventually led to the development of the internal pacemaker in 1956.

3. Saccharin

In 1879, the Russian chemist Constantin Fahlberg found his food strangely sweet. He also found out where the taste came from. That then prompted the discovery of saccharin, a substance that is 700 times sweeter than sugar but has no calories.

Saccharin is often used as a sweetener in food and beverages. The American POM, FDA and WHO agree that there is no danger from saccharin and is considered safe for humans.
