3 infected with COVID-19 will return to the Bolivian team

The three players of the Bolivian national team who tested positive for COVID-19 on the eve of the start of the Copa América have already complied with the required quarantine and will rejoin the team, the federation of that country confirmed on Monday.

“After completing the 10 days of isolation and without presenting symptoms, as established by the sanitary regulations of the Brazilian Ministry of Health for people detected with Covid 19, the players of the National Team: Marcelo Martins, Henry Vaca and Luis Haquin were authorized by said health entity to move to the city of Cuiabá ”, informed the Bolivian Football Federation in a statement.

The statement issued that night adds that, “early on Tuesday,” the three players “will be subjected to PCR tests, along with all the other players called up for the game against Uruguay.”

That meeting is scheduled for Thursday and could be decisive for both teams. Uruguay occupies the penultimate position of Group A with one point, while Bolivia is last, without adding. Four of the top five from each group advance to the quarterfinals.

According to the Federation, the players who rejoin “will carry out stress tests and a rigorous medical review and evaluation by the Medical Corps of the National Team.”

Bolivia, which has scored a single goal in its two defeats, has missed Martins, its historic scorer, who also starred in a controversy after his positive COVID-19 result, detected on June 12. The Cruzeiro striker harshly criticized CONMEBOL for insisting on holding the tournament in Brazil despite the high number of COVID-19 infections in this country.

Martins retracted after his comments, and the governing body of soccer in South America sanctioned him with a suspension game and a fine of $ 20,000.

Brazil assumed the emergency organization of the Copa América, after Colombia and Argentina, the original co-hosts, were ruled out.
