3 Different Local and Foreign Fruits, from Eating Portions to Savings

KOMPAS.com – Some fruits can only be grown in certain areas. Some grow in the tropics, some in the sub-tropics.

As a tropical country, Indonesia is able to produce various kinds of fruit, such as mango, mangosteen, pineapple, guava, and durian.

Just like Indonesia, several sub-tropical countries also produce a variety of fruits, such as apples, grapes, and strawberries.

Researchers at the Center for Tropical Horticultural Studies IPB Sobir said that there are three differences between local (tropical) and foreign (sub-tropical) fruits, ranging from the edible portion to the shelf life, as follows:

1. The portion of edible local fruit is lower than foreign fruit

According to Sobir, the portion of local fruit that can be eaten is less than that of foreign fruit.

“Usually the fruit of the archipelago edible portionis low. Mango is compared to apples, pears are compared to mangoes, you can only eat a little,” said Sobir.

2. Foreign fruit is easier to consume

When viewed from the ease of consumption, Sobir considers that foreign fruits are easier to consume.

“Local fruit is relatively difficult to consume, it must be peeled first. Rambutan must be peeled, mangosteen, durian too. The only fruit that is easy to eat is bananas,” said Sobir.
