“3 Deadly Viruses That Have Claimed Many Lives: Marburg, Ebola, and Rabies”

Terkini.id, Jakarta – Viruses have coexisted with humans, there are types of viruses that are harmless such as Baculovirus, but there are also viruses that can threaten human life such as Covid which only occurred in 2019.

But there are still many viruses before Covid that have killed many humans. Here are 3 deadly viruses that killed many victims:

1. Virus Marburg

This virus was first identified in 1967, in a laboratory in Germany. It is known that the workers there were infected by a virus carried by the infected monkey at the time. This monkey is imported from Uganda.

This virus spreads through human or animal fluids such as blood or other body fluids.

Symptoms of this virus include high fever, bleeding throughout the body, organ failure and death.

WHO (World Health Organization) recorded a case fatality rate in 1967 of 24%, but the figure rose in 1998-2000 to 83%. An outbreak at the time occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Then the figure rose to 100% during the 2017 outbreak in Uganda.

Then in August 2021 there was another outbreak of this virus in West Africa. But this outbreak lasted only 6 weeks.

2. Virus Ebola

This virus outbreak was first discovered in the Republic of Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1976. Just like the Marburg Virus, this virus also spreads through contact with blood and other body fluids, tissues from infected people and animals.

Each strain of Ebola has a different impact. One of them is Reston which is a strain of Ebola.

Reston doesn’t make people sick. Unlike Bundibugyo which is a strain of Ebola. This strain has a mortality rate of 50%.

3. Virus Rabies

This virus is very rare in developed countries because there is already a vaccine. Unlike the two previous viruses, which do not yet have an effective vaccine. But for countries that are not yet developed, this virus still occurs frequently.

The infection is spread by the bite of an infected animal. This virus attacks the brain and causes damage to the brain and nerves.

Symptoms of this disease include fatigue, fever, headache, excessive salivation. Usually when symptoms appear, it will be followed by death.

Those are 3 deadly viruses that have caused many deaths in the world.
