A new study by car portal iSeeCar sheds light on which SUVs stand the test of time, identifying models that owners are loath to part with, even after two decades on the road. Analyzing data from 750,000 vehicle owners, the study pinpointed the most enduring SUVs currently available on the used car market.
Topping the list is the Toyota Highlander, a perennial favorite consistently ranked among the most reliable vehicles for the past decade. "A fifth of Japanese owners are not ready to trade it for another vehicle," the study notes.
For some, the Highlander becomes more than just transportation; "[some even call the car part of the family]."
Following closely behind is the Honda Pilot, a popular choice in the American market known for its quality and dependability.
"This car is in high demand in the American market, where it is a symbol of quality and reliability," the study reveals.
The Pilot’s spacious seven-seat interior and iVTM-4 all-wheel drive system, which enhances traction in both on- and off-road conditions, have made it a favorite among families. More than 15% of American owners keep their Pilots for over 20 years.
Rounding out the top three is the Honda CR-V, a more compact SUV that doesn’t compromise on quality or fuel efficiency.
“[The CR-V is] the best in the segment." the study states, highlighting its "2.4-liter unit with an output of 190 hp". More than 12% of drivers keep their CR-Vs for 20 years.
Picking a Rust-Resistant Ride:
With winter approaching and salt-laden roads becoming a concern, finding a vehicle with robust rust resistance is paramount.
iSeeCar experts have identified some top contenders in this category, offering peace of mind to drivers facing harsh winter conditions.
"Experts also compiled a rating of cars that are not afraid of rust," the article mentions.
Topping the list is the Audi A6, famed for its galvanized body panels and high-quality paintwork that effectively ward off corrosion.
The Toyota Camry XV30 model is also recognized for its rust resistance.
While some rust may eventually appear, completely rusted-out Camry XV30s are rare.
The second-generation Volvo S80 sedan is another standout, boasting excellent galvanization and paint that effectively resist the ravages of time and road salt.
Other models recognized for their anti-corrosion performance include the Opel Insignia, Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Passat B6, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221.
