3 Cases of Clade Pox Monkey 2 Variant Found in the Philippines, WHO calls a health emergency

JAKARTA, CEKLISSATU – The Philippine Ministry of Health has reconfirmed the addition of two cases of the Clade 2 variant of monkeypox, which means there are three active cases of monkeypox or Mpox.

A case of monkey pox was previously announced by the Philippine Ministry of Health in a 33-year-old man, with a milder variant of Mpox. It is known that the man has no history of traveling abroad.

The Philippine government continues to monitor cases of monkeypox, especially in Metro Manila.

“The latest confirmed case is a 37-year-old man who had a rash on his skin, and was taken to the government hospital. “Then there was the second man, a 32-year-old man, with wounds on his skin,” said Philippine Health Minister Teodoro Herbosa, as quoted by Reuteurs, Monday August 26, 2024.

With the addition of the latest cases, this means that as of July 2022, there are 12 laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox in the Philippines.

In early August, the World Health Organization or WHO declared the monkey pox or Mpox as a global public health emergency.

This is the highest type of alert, where in the last two years the monkeypox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has spread to neighboring countries.

The concern is because the measles virus can spread easily, through regular contact, and cause flu-like symptoms and sores.

This virus easily affects people with a weak immune system, although it is mild but it can kill children, pregnant women and people with a weak immune system.
