Cancer can strike anyone regardless of age. Not only adults and the elderly, young people starting from the age of 20 years also have a risk of being haunted by cancer.
“From the graph seen, (cancer cases at) ages 20, 30, 40, 50 years tend to increase. But it’s the turn of old age like 60 years, 70 years (the number of cancer cases) tends to decrease. There are many factors, one of which is lifestyle, “explained specialist Dr. dr. Wifanto Saditya Jeo, SpB-KBD from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) when met by detikcom in an event themed Cancer Festival in South Jakarta, Saturday (6/5/2022).
On that occasion, Dr. Wifanto explained a series of ‘simple’ habits that actually trigger the potential for cancer at a young age. Here are the notes:

1. Frequent Consumption of High-Sugar Foods and Drinks
Sugar can be one of the triggers of diseases such as diabetes to cancer.
“Sugar triggers a lot of cancer, diabetes and others. PET Scan detection itself also uses sugar that is placed on the body and seen where it moves,” explained Dr. Wifanto.
2. Eat mostly instant food
For some people, especially those who are young, often consuming instant noodles may not have a significant adverse effect on the body. But actually, preserved foods such as instant noodles can trigger the potential for cancer at a young age.
“For preserved food, we are more or less worried about the process that causes cancer. It’s not the only factor because our bodies have reserves or reactions to these incoming ingredients,” said Dr. Wifanto.
3. Too Often Eat Red Meat
Red meat generally has saturated fat which can cause disturbed DNA processes. As a result, the potential for cancer, especially at a young age, increases.
“So if it (saturated fat) enters, DNA can be disrupted. So the process is disrupted so that the protein that we produce to form good cells will change,” he said.
