3-1. Boston River hits first and takes advantage against Zamora

Montevideo, Feb 9 (EFE).- The Uruguayan Boston River defeated the Venezuelan Zamora 3-1 on Thursday and took the lead in the series between the two teams for the first phase of the Copa Libertadores.

At the Centenario stadium in Montevideo, the ‘Sastre’ showed his best version and did not disappoint those who accompanied him, one of them the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, a supporter of this team.

Just 23 minutes into the game, defender Leonard Costa jumped higher than his opponents after a corner kick and anticipated the rival goalkeeper’s departure to score the first with a powerful header.

Owner of the ball, the intractable Cristian Olivera became a headache for the Panamanian winger Alejandro Yearwood and generated two clear opportunities that did not end in a goal due to lack of aim.

Thus, the first part left with a minimal advantage in favor of the locals, who in the second half went on the attack again since the referee marked the beginning and quickly found their prize.

The 55th minute was running when attacker Mathías Acuña celebrated after leaving goalkeeper Carlos Salazar without options with a powerful header.

Ten minutes later Emiliano Gómez took advantage of another magnificent play by Olivera and pushed the ball to turn the victory into a rout and to give the locals great peace of mind thinking about the revenge.

However, in one of the few attacking plays that Zamora had, they managed to discount through César Magallán, who converted after a series of rebounds that complicated the rearguard of the Montevidean team.

24 minutes remained to be played and everything indicated that the visitor was going to take the lead driven by the discount, however, it was again Boston River who launched the attack, although they also had to suffer in a play in which the vertical played at your favor.

Without any more dangerous plays, the match ended with a 3-1 victory for the Uruguayan team, which next week will have to defend its two-goal advantage in Venezuela while the Argentine Huracán waits for an opponent.
