2nd University of AGET: the industrialization of Togo at the heart of the debates

The Association of Large Enterprises of Togo (AGET) held on Tuesday March 14, 2023 in Lomé, the second edition of its universities. At the heart of the exchanges was “the industrialization of Togo”.

This meeting was attended by actors from the private sector, members of the government and representatives of international financial institutions. These, through various panels, guided the reflections on the solution to develop the industrial sector of Togo.

Precisely the reflections were carried out via 3 panels around themes such as ”Industrial policy and factors of production”, ”Financing and industrialization: role of financing institutions and the State”, and ”Development value chains: agro-industry and mining”.

Regarding the financing of industrial projects, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Local Consumption Kodjo Adedze stressed that he “ remains a key issue for the development of the manufacturing industry “. He further notes that ” the development of value chains is essential to ensure the full industrialization of Togo to better take advantage of our strategic positioning and hub within the framework of the already operational African continental free trade area ».

In the same dynamic, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) branch of the World Bank dedicated to the private sector and the African Development Bank (AfDB) are committed alongside the Togolese authorities for the development of the country.

During the exchanges, relevant issues were also addressed such as job-training adequacy, the financing of intangible knowledge, the financing of SMIs, the particularities of financing in the industrial sector in general, the criteria for evaluating structuring projects as well as unfair competition.

As a reminder, AGET is an employers’ organization that brings together private companies in Togo operating in all key sectors of the national economy.
