SC Magdeburg celebrated its second win in two games in the Handball Bundesliga and delivered a fitting response to the disappointment in the Champions League.
Three days after the bitter 29:31 defeat at the start of the Champions League against Hungary’s runner-up Pick Szeged, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team won comfortably 32:26 (16:10) against HSV Handball. With nine goals, veteran Matthias Musche was the best scorer for the triple winner, who had defeated HSG Wetzlar 35:28 in the opening match.
“The win was incredibly important. It’s good to start the season with four points,” said SCM backcourt player Gisli Kristjansson on the “Dyn” microphone. Next Sunday (September 22, 2024), the Magdeburg record champions will host THW Kiel in the first top game of the season.
Golla praises Flensburg’s “focused performance”
European League winners SG Flensburg-Handewitt also completed their task. The Füchse Berlin had to put up significantly more resistance than Magdeburg and Flensburg in their 37:32 (20:17) defeat against SC DHfK Leipzig. As is often the case, world handball player Mathias Gidsel was the best scorer for the capital club with eight goals, which, like Magdeburg, had started the group phase of the Champions League with a narrow defeat.

Lions win southwest duel
The Rhein-Neckar Löwen also confidently secured their second win in the second game. Kiel celebrates clear success
Record champion THW Kiel celebrated a successful home debut in the new Bundesliga season despite major personnel problems. The Kiel team defeated FA Göppingen 33:24 (17:11) on Thursday evening and showed that they had recovered well from their 27:32 defeat on the first match day at the hands of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in front of their home crowd.
