2nd league: Würzburg will have to compete in Darmstadt on Saturday

The second division game between Darmstadt 98 and newly promoted and bottom light Würzburger Kickers will probably take place on Saturday (1 p.m.). That reported the “Main Post”.

In Lower Franconia, a physiotherapist tested positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of the week. 14 players were then placed in quarantine. As a result, the Wednesday game of the Kickers at home against St. Pauli and the away game in Darmstadt on Saturday were canceled at the request of the Würzburg team.

The responsible health department, however, has now lifted the quarantine for four of the 14 actors, since in these cases “an increased risk of infection cannot be assumed”. However, this creates a problem for the kickers. According to the DFL game rules, a game can only be canceled after five permitted substitutions if a team has 16 players or fewer. The crux of the matter: bans or injuries, ie “sport-typical issues”, are not decisive.

For Würzburg this means that the red-banned Ewerton, as well as the two injured Keanu Staude (ankle) and Douglas (thigh) are to be regarded as part of the squad. With them as well as the available twelve field players and two reserve keepers, coach Bernhard Trares’ squad includes 17 players according to the rules of the game.

According to the report, the use of U-19 players in the kickers is out of the question, as they have not yet been part of the corona test program according to the DFL hygiene concept. The game must therefore take place, unless other Würzburg players or officials test positive by Saturday.
