The duel on Saturday between Kirchberg and Groß-Siegharts was a youth duel. While the oldest player in the Siegharts starting eleven was only 27 years old, the Weixelbraun team consisted of four players over 30 and seven players who were no more than 20 years old. Kirchberg also has the youngest coach in the league in Patrick Weixelbraun, born in 1997.
How does he rate coaching such a young team? “Basically, of course, it’s an advantage, because we can always go full throttle during training.” The fact that there are also disadvantages was noticeable in the 3-1 defeat against Großsiegharts: “If the opponent plays a little differently, they are more variable moves, then it often takes longer until we reach the man. Of course, there is simply a lack of experience,” says the coach.
In addition, Kirchberg often lacked consistency in the pre-season and even at the beginning of this season you can already tell that although there is a lot in the team, they can’t always call on their full potential. Weixelbraun also addresses the fluctuations in performance: “We were in full form against Eibenstein, but against Siegharts we were often second on the ball, especially in the first half, a little slower than the opponent.”
When asked about the composition of the team compared to the Bandlkramer, who, in contrast to Kirchberg, had some players on the field who were in their mid-20s in the best footballing age, Weixelbraun sees no disadvantage: “I don’t really think it’s that bad.” In fact, you have to with this one Argument that the Weixelbraun team with four players over 30, who act centrally in defense and in midfield, also has a team with a lot of experience, which can serve as a point of reference for the young players in difficult situations.
An interesting game awaits the young Weixelbraun team on Saturday in the derby against Hoheneich. The Haie started the season with two wins and are currently leading the table. However, Kirchberg already showed against Eibenstein that the team performs well in home derbies. “It is very difficult to assess Hoheneich at the moment. But after the two victories, they will certainly come to Kirchberg with a lot of self-confidence,” says Weixelbraun.
