Werder’s top scorer scored the first two goals with a controversial hand penalty, which referee Daniel Siebert gave after viewing the video images.
The HSV goals from Jonas Meffert (46th) and Robert Glatzel (80th) did not prevent Werder’s eighth win in the ninth game under coach Ole Werner. Bremen is 45 points ahead of Darmstadt 98 and FC St. Pauli (both 44), HSV is fourth ahead of Schalke 04 (both 41).
Werder clearly better in the first round
There was a lot at stake given the tight constellation at the top. HSV coach Tim Walter had declared the guests to be the slight favorites before the 156th competitive game between the two clubs, if you also include the games in the Oberliga Nord, in the DFB Cup and in the European Cup, but Werder was even clear in the first round better.
After Moritz Heyer’s alleged equalizer was denied due to a controversial game by Glatzel (19′), Daniel Heuer Fernandez became more and more the center of attention.
After the Bremen team made ambush-like switching movements, the HSV keeper cleared Leonardo Bittencourt (30th) and Ducksch (33rd) in extreme need, the away team had not previously used any other promising opportunities to score. Shortly before the break, HSV striker Glatzel suddenly had another chance to equalize, but aimed too imprecisely (44th).
fiercely contested in the final phase
After the half-time whistle, Hamburg cheered briefly, but then there were penalties again. Before the first penalty, Meffert was struck by the ball after a shot by Ömer Toprak, now Bakery Jatta were the unlucky ones after a shot by Mitchell Weiser. The final phase was then fiercely contested.
