Schonlau also has to go down
Shortly after the restart, the guests made sure that there was even more space on the pitch: The already warned Schonlau fouled Romano Schmid shortly before the penalty area and was also sent off by referee Sascha Stegemann. After a good hour, Bakery Jatta should have made the decision, but initially failed with a low shot at Michael Zetterer and then headed just past.
In the final phase, Werder reared up again. Substitute Niclas Füllkrug could have caused tension again with his first action twenty minutes before the end of the game. He had already rounded Heuer-Fernandes, but then turned from a difficult angle. Shortly afterwards, Füllkrug awarded again from a very promising position (76th). Bremen did not give up and came on several other occasions – but luck was not with the green-whites that day.
Both teams have to play next Sunday (September 26th, 2021). Werder plays in Dresden, Hamburg at home against Nuremberg.
