The only star in the surprise trailer unveiled by 2K Thursday evening, Zion Williamson has fueled many rumors despite himself. The famous game publisher wanted to clarify the situation.
Zion Williamson is already a superstar when he only played 20 games in the NBA and has almost as many candles on his birthday cake. It was he, and he alone, who was featured yesterday for the NBA 2K21’s first event trailer.
Without further ado, many internet users have concluded that the Colossus of the Pelicans was thus enthroned as the “Cover athlete” of this opus, that is to say the player that we will find on the cover.
This is however false according to 2K, as Andrew Lopez of ESPN first relayed:
Confirmed this just now but Zion Williamson was not announced as the 2k21 cover athlete yesterday. Zion has an existing 2k endorsement deal and they just decided to use him in the PS5 trailer yesterday.
A formal announcement will come later this year on the 2k21 cover athlete.

I wasn’t confirmed until now, but Zion Williamson was not announced as the player on the cover of 2K21 yesterday. Zion has a contract with 2K and they just decided to use it in the trailer for PS5 yesterday. An official cover athlete announcement will be made later this year.
