2K’s message to clear the noises on Zion Williamson

The only star in the surprise trailer unveiled by 2K Thursday evening, Zion Williamson has fueled many rumors despite himself. The famous game publisher wanted to clarify the situation.

Zion Williamson is already a superstar when he only played 20 games in the NBA and has almost as many candles on his birthday cake. It was he, and he alone, who was featured yesterday for the NBA 2K21’s first event trailer.

Without further ado, many internet users have concluded that the Colossus of the Pelicans was thus enthroned as the “Cover athlete” of this opus, that is to say the player that we will find on the cover.

This is however false according to 2K, as Andrew Lopez of ESPN first relayed:

I wasn’t confirmed until now, but Zion Williamson was not announced as the player on the cover of 2K21 yesterday. Zion has a contract with 2K and they just decided to use it in the trailer for PS5 yesterday. An official cover athlete announcement will be made later this year.

A version then directly confirmed by 2K, to ensure that the (false) noise does not spread further:

We wanted to show the incredible visual fidelity of the PlayStation 5, and what is possible with the power of the next-gen. Zion is a perfect fit, as he represents one of the best new talent in the next generation of NBA stars. We will be revealing the NBA 2K21 cover athletes in July.

A lesson in this press release: several players and / or several covers will be expected. We obviously imagine a version devoted to Kobe Bryant, but for the rest, speculation remains in place until next month and the famous announcement.

No, Zion is not (yet?) The player you will find on the cover of your next 2K. Who will have this privilege? Still a little patience.
