2G off track for the time being, Kuipers wants to postpone treatment of the law | Inland

On Tuesday afternoon, the House will again debate the extension of the corona law, which also includes the corona admission ticket.

The new corona minister is not yet prepared to completely delete the proposal. Kuipers wants to re-examine the circumstances in which 2G can be used, he wrote in a letter to the House of Representatives on Tuesday. He refers to an earlier study by TU Delft, which showed that 2G has hardly any effect, especially with the emergence of the infectious omicron variant of corona.

‘No need’

The difference between 2G and 3G is so small that there is ‘no need’ for the rapid introduction of the stricter system, says Kuipers. “But it could be that in the future we may have to discuss this again in a different setting, but then we have to have it,” the corona minister said in an explanation.

On Tuesday morning, it actually appeared that 2G would probably not make it in the House. Coalition party CU and opposition party GL both wanted to rally behind a motion against 2G. If the PvdA had also been included, the proposal would not have passed in any case.

Kuipers denies that the alleged Chamber minority has anything to do with his decision to put 2G on hold for the time being. “No, it really is the follow-up to the advice of the TU Delft report.” He is also not yet prepared to let go of the corona admission ticket in the form of 3G (tested, cured or vaccinated). “Everyone hopes that will go away at some point; I hope so as much, but not yet.”
