All three operators in the Czech Republic, they have already switched off their third-generation networks. But with the old second-generation network, it won’t be that fast, because many users still use it on older phones, and a large proportion of modern phones use it for phone calls due to imperfect VoLTE support from operators.

CTO now restored the allocation of the 2100 MHz band for the operator O2 and on that occasion imposed on the operator the obligation to keep the 2G network in operation at least until 2028. The deadline could be shortened if the number of users of this currently oldest operated mobile network falls below 5%.

Chairwoman of the CTO Council Hana Továrková she reached a consensus with O2, which she said would benefit the general public. The negotiations have been complex and I am not afraid to call our approach innovative. We would like to thank O2 for reaching an agreement that will benefit the elderly and the socially disadvantaged in particular, said Hana Továrková.

It is expected that in the following period, new allocations will be issued for other holders of frequencies in the 2100 MHz band. All allocations have been and continue to be technology neutral in line with European legislation, allowing their holders to innovate the technologies used to provide electronic communications services.
