The leiputria of domestic cinema continues, offering more and more new film premieres. Last week, director Dāvis Sīmanis and his film “Mary’s silence” were in the center of attention, which has already received international recognition. On the other hand, to the delight of cinema gourmands, the short film festival “2Annas” also started. Also, last week at the “Golden Apple” ceremony, the most beautiful books published last year were awarded, while the pearls of baroque music sounded in the refined atmosphere of Rundāle Palace. However, last week’s jubilarians, who celebrated their round birthdays with creative events in various places in Latvia, deserve special attention. Musician Ainars Virga gathered guests in Liepāja, composer Kristaps Krievkalns in Cēsis, and artist Mareks Gurcekis in Sigulda. On Friday, April 5, the 28th International Short Film Festival “2Annas” was opened at the Latvian Academy of Sciences with a specially created performance “Prāt-palikumi”. The event brought together festival organizers, directors and representatives of the film industry, as well as anyone interested.
The performance “Prāt-palikumi” created especially for the theme of the festival “mind” offered an unusual expression of art and a reflection on the unlimited capabilities of the human mind. When planning the opening performance, one of the most important things and motives was the location of the event – Academy of Sciences. “This place and space with portraits of male scientists on the wall inspired us to look at alternative realities of the future and the past,” says Laima Graždanović, artistic director of the festival. The performance was created by Ieva Vīksne, a new media artist and lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts, together with dancers Madaras Anna Baltins, Nikitas Paskars and the musical duo “Radioserviss”.
It has already been announced that this year “2Annas” will take place from April 5 to 11.
