The military offensive decided by Vladimir Putin and led by the Russian army against several sectors in Ukraine since February 24 has thrown tens of thousands of civilians on the roads fleeing the bombardments. In a first detailed and quantified assessment, the regional prefecture in Pays-de-la-Loire announces, this Wednesday, April 6, to have identified nearly 3,000 refugees spread across the five departments.
The arrivals of Ukrainian nationals on the regional territory are mainly so “diffuse” : State services, associative operators and local authorities organize themselves to manage administrative and accommodation needs: “2,140 Ukrainians have thus reported to the five prefectures of the region: 1,019 in Loire-Atlantique, 315 in Maine-et-Loire, 120 in Mayenne, 351 in Sarthe and 335 in Vendée” we list in Nantes.
Transfers from Paris to the west
But that’s not all: the Île-de-France knowing “very large flows of arrivals of displaced Ukrainians”Pays-de-la-Loire is also involved in transfer operations. Since mid-March, around 790 Ukrainians have therefore been referred to the five Loire departments: “132 in Loire-Atlantique, 169 in Maine-et-Loire, 137 in Mayenne, 209 in Sarthe and 139 in Vendée” adds the regional prefecture.
2,930 nationals according to the last count in Pays-de-la-Loire, and others will follow, since the objective announced by France is 100,000 Ukrainians, including 7,000 in the region. Each is given a “Temporary residence authorisation” under the “temporary protection” and can also benefit from a payment card giving access to “basic financial allowance”.
295 Ukrainian minors already in school
Among the refugees welcomed on French soil, there is a majority of women and children: “National Education already educates 295 Ukrainian minors in Pays-de-la-Loirehalf of them in primary school, and 434 others are about to be” we specify, before emphasizing that “State services are now also working on setting up courses for discovering and acquiring the French language as well as professional integration”.
