URETERP – A 29-year-old man from the municipality of Opsterland was arrested by the police on Tuesday. He is suspected of causing the accident that took place on Tuesday afternoon on Selmien West in Ureterp.
A 41-year-old man from Drachten was injured in the accident, which took place around 4:20 p.m. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police believe the cause of the accident was mud on the road. The mud had made the road extremely slippery, causing the driver to veer off the road and come to a stop against a tree.
“We take into account that the driver lost control of the car as a result of the slippery conditions.” the police said. “The mud may have come from an agricultural vehicle. We have arrested a 29-year-old man from the municipality of Opsterland on suspicion of causing a serious traffic accident.”
The suspect was interrogated at the police station and subsequently released.
