A 29-year-old fled a police check through three federal states. The chase ended after more than 50 kilometers with three slightly injured and two damaged cars in Darmstadt, Hesse, as the local police announced on Friday. Accordingly, a civil strife of the Rhine Palatinate police noticed on Thursday afternoon on Autobahn 6 near Frankenthal in Rhineland-Palatinate that the 29-year-old’s car was not registered.
Instead of reacting to signs from the officials, the man accelerated and overtook other vehicles on the hard shoulder with up to 180 kilometers per hour. He fled to Baden-Württemberg via the A6. A short time later he drove in Hesse on the A67 in the direction of Darmstadt. The 29-year-old left the autobahn near Pfungstadt. He ran over several red traffic lights and sped through the city at a clearly excessive speed, partly against the traffic.
His journey ended in the Darmstadt district of Eberstadt. He turned right off the road and hit a curb. The officers temporarily arrested the man. Two police officers were cut while being arrested. The 29-year-old was also slightly injured. Small amounts of drugs were found in the car.
Blood was drawn on suspicion that he was driving under the influence of drugs. The man also had no driving license since 2018. His car and a patrol car were so badly damaged that they had to be towed. Several criminal proceedings await the 29-year-old.
