Heavy rain expected in Hokkaido and Tohoku
Today, the 28th, a low pressure system accompanied by a front will develop and pass near northern Japan.
It’s been raining in Hokkaido since noon, and there are likely to be places with heavy rain accompanied by thunder, especially on the Pacific side. There will be rain and thunderstorms in the Tohoku region starting in the morning. Heavy rain is expected and there is a risk of heavy rainfall. Please be careful of landslides, flooding of low-lying areas, and rising river waters. In addition, winds will become stronger, especially in coastal areas, and there may be some places where it rains sideways. Hokuriku will also experience intermittent rain, which may be accompanied by thunder.
Kanto-Koshin, Kyushu, and Okinawa will experience mostly sunny spells, but there will be areas of showers and thunderstorms, especially along the Sea of Japan.
Severe summer heat mainly in the Kanto-Koshin region
The maximum temperature in Hokkaido and northern Tohoku will be lower than yesterday. In Hokkaido, the temperature is about 3℃ lower than yesterday, and is likely to be around 20℃. There are many places in the northern Tohoku region where the temperature will not reach 25℃, so it will not be hot. Temperatures in southern Tohoku and Hokuriku will rise to nearly 30 degrees Celsius, and many places are likely to experience humid conditions.
From Kanto-Koshin to Kyushu and Okinawa, there are many places where the temperature is over 30 degrees Celsius, and the harsh lingering heat will continue. In particular, the temperature in Kanto-Koshin and Tokai areas is expected to reach 33℃, which is similar to midsummer. In places such as Kofu City and Shizuoka City, the temperature will rise to 35 degrees Celsius, making it an extremely hot day.
What is heavy rain?
Heavy rain refers to rain with an hourly rainfall of more than 30 mm and less than 50 mm. This is an image of rain falling like an overturned bucket. Also, you can get wet even with an umbrella, and about half of the people sleeping inside a wooden house will notice the rain. Outside, roads become like rivers, and cars driving on highways are at risk of “hydroplaning,” a phenomenon in which a film of water forms between the tires and the road surface, making the brakes ineffective.
In areas where heavy rain is expected, be careful of landslides, flooding of low-lying areas, and rising river levels.
