6:56 pm: After two months of “surreal silence”, the Colosseum will reopen on June 1 in Rome

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy’s most visited tourist attraction, will reopen on June 1. The imposing amphitheater, listed as a World Heritage Site, reopens under the sign of security: masks and temperature measurements, secure routes, reservations required, etc. “These past few months have been very difficult, with a surreal silence that is difficult to accept,” said a press release from the site.

“To celebrate this important moment (…), and in solidarity with all those who lost relatives and friends during the pandemic, the Colosseum will be lit up the previous evening (Sunday) in the colors of the Italian tricolor, symbol of cohesion and sharing ”.
