280,000 Flemings eligible for third shot, after Oct. 15…

Vaccination centers will close soon ©  Raymond Lemmens

From September 10, the first invitations will go out for people who qualify for a third shot. These include patients with congenital immune disorders, people on chronic kidney dialysis and certain HIV and blood cancer patients. The Agency for Care and Health estimates that about 280,000 Flemish people are involved.

The lists are currently being drawn up by the mutualities. From 13 September, they can be further supplemented by the general practitioners. A week later, from September 20, people on myhealthviewer will be able to see for themselves whether they are on the list. The Agency is trying to bring that time forward. An extension of the third shot to other population groups is not on the agenda for the time being. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) indicated this week that this would be premature.

The third shot will still be given in the vaccination centers, which will all close by October 15. After that, the newly delivered vaccines go to pharmacies, two per primary care zone. They can stock and prepare the vaccines if requested by a GP or nurse. The central invitations for a first injection will stop from September 10. Anyone who still wants to be vaccinated after that will have to contact the population manager or the general practitioner.
