28-year-old driver without a driver’s license hits 69-year-old moped rider

The car driver Rashaan A. (28) was taken into custody on Monday 3 January by the police of the Latour bureau, after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. On the same day, around 8.30 pm, he hit a moped rider on the Indira Ghandiweg near the Asraf Safoeralaan. He does not appear to be in possession of a driver’s license, the Suriname Police Force reported today.

After the report of the collision, the law enforcement officers of the aforementioned office visited the location for an investigation. When they arrived there, the 69-year-old moped rider Max V. was found with serious physical injuries on the road surface. The traffic victim was taken by ambulance to the emergency department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. He suffered a fracture to the left thigh and was admitted to the hospital for nursing.

An investigation revealed that the car driver was driving on Indira Gandhiweg shortly before the collision. He came from the direction of Latour and went towards that of the Saron Bridge, while the moped rider was traveling in the opposite direction. At the height of the Asraf Safuralaan, Rashaan wanted to avoid a huge traffic jam and turned right onto the site of a plastic factory to turn around. On that occasion, he disregarded the traffic going straight ahead and hit the moped rider.

The car driver Rashaan, who was not under the influence of alcohol, was taken to the police station for arraignment reports the Surinamese police.
