Highlights of the Austrian Film Festival in Graz
The heart of the festival remains the film competition, which awards Austria’s most valuable film prizes through international juries and thus recognizes the outstanding achievements of film production. The innovative “Position” section provides a comprehensive look at outstanding filmmakers through exhibitions of their work. Under the title “Film History”, film history specials allow a fascinating look into the past, which at the same time allows conclusions to be drawn about the Austrian present. The new “Forum” event series in the Folklore Museum at Paulustor offers an inspiring setting for conversations and discussion events.
Wild thoughts and cinematic arguments
Dominik Kamalzadeh and Claudia Slanar, the new festival management, emphasize the importance of the festival as a place for exchange and discussion about films. “As we understand it, a film festival can only thrive and grow if it allows for wild thinking,” say Kamalzadeh and Slanar.
Emotional contemporary document
The opening film “Favorites” by Ruth Beckermann promises to be a touching and relevant contemporary document. The documentary follows a class and their teacher at a Vienna elementary school for three years and shows the daily challenges and joys of a remarkable small community.
