276 million euros for six kilometers: Berlin expressway will be almost twice as expensive as planned – Berlin

The costs of the planned tangential connection east (TVO) between Hellersdorf and Köpenick should almost double. This was reported by the “Berliner Morgenpost”. Accordingly, 276 million euros are now calculated for the construction of the expressway. For three years, the sum was 155 million euros, at the beginning of the planning 80 million.
The TVO is to connect the eastern and southeastern districts with the Berliner Ring in the north and the A113 in the south and relieve city streets of through traffic. The planning originates in principle from 1969 from the “General Traffic Plan of the Capital of the GDR”, at that time only the Märkische Allee in the north was built. The southern section from Wuhlheide to Adlergestell was opened in 2007. Since then, there has been a dispute over the middle section. Several hundred people demonstrated against the building in April. The CDU, FDP and business associations then appealed again to build the road as quickly as possible.

Red-red-green had agreed on the construction of the TVO

The TVO is included in the coalition agreement of red-red-green. Most recently, the traffic administration of Senator Regine Günther (Greens) presented plans for a cycle expressway that is to be built parallel to the TVO, including a modern-looking cycle roundabout above the multi-lane road. In addition, there had been several planning changes that made the 6.4 kilometer long middle section significantly more expensive.

The construction has been postponed for years. Most recently, the traffic administration announced in June 2021 that the plan approval procedure could be initiated “in 2022”. It also said: “Specific dates for the start of construction or completion cannot currently be named reliably.”

In the best-case scenario, construction of the road could begin in 2024 if there is no complaint. But this is very likely. Environmental groups criticize the fact that in the Wuhlheide “many thousands of trees were cut down and almost 15 hectares of forest destroyed” for the TVO. The traffic administration contradicted this.
