“Life takes precedence over adoration”: in a period of confinement, religions adapt in Eure-et-Loir
For the first time since the entry into force of confinement, they were able to attend a mass other than by means of a retransmission via the Internet, while respecting the rules of social distancing in force (wearing a mask, physical separation between the faithful, limited attendance, etc.).

This deconfinement of cults, authorized by decree dated May 22, 2020, brought together the faithful whose faith was tested by distance from their place of worship, like Melchior and Grégoire, both aged 26 , who have found their “home”: “It’s good to be able to come together. There was a great need. We feel emotion but above all joy.”
How Catholics in Eure-et-Loir Adapt to Containment
Shared joy, also, by Louis, a forty-year-old Chartrain, who came as a family with his wife and four children: “There is the emotion of the return. However, I think that this return could have been envisaged earlier, respecting the same safety rules as today. Because it’s very well organized. “
270 followers maximum
In a cathedral where access was limited to 270 people, around thirty volunteers helped visitors get into place while respecting the rules of social distancing. A health protocol that has had little influence on the fervor of the faithful, even if, specifies Louis, “we have lost in solemnity and spontaneity what we have gained in security”.
All transported to find their church, the faithful were in any case ready to make this small sacrifice on the altar, in a way, a reunion with their cathedral.
