A 27-year-old pedestrian died after she was hit by a De Lijn bus on Martelarenplein in Leuven on Monday evening.
A pedestrian was hit by a De Lijn bus on Martelarenplein in Leuven on Monday evening and died in hospital from her injuries. This is reported by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office. It concerns a 27-year-old woman.
The accident took place shortly before 5 p.m. near the platforms of the Lijn at the Leuven train station.
“According to the traffic expert’s initial findings, the bus came from Bondgenootlaan and was driving towards the platforms of the Lijn, when the bus hit a pedestrian who was walking there,” says public prosecutor’s office spokesperson Sarah Callewaert. “The victim was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.”
Bus driver questioned
The public prosecutor’s office has appointed a traffic expert to further investigate the exact cause and circumstances of the accident. The camera images on Martelarenplein and on the bus were also confiscated. The bus driver, a 46-year-old man, was also questioned.
