A then 27-year-old craftsman met a woman via an app in July 2022. The two communicated via Snapchat and met for the first time in Baden after a few weeks. And here the romantic feelings ended: the man began to demand money from the woman.

At first she refused him the amounts he demanded from her. The man then regularly threatened her that if she didn’t hand over money, he would call a colleague and they would then go to her family and “destroy” them – this is what a criminal order that recently became legally binding says. The woman felt so intimidated that she repeatedly gave the blackmailer money for almost a year, between 40 and 200 francs each time.

In total, the accused stole over 12,000 francs. Until he was caught and punished. For extortion, the public prosecutor’s office imposed a conditional fine of 80 daily rates of 30 francs (2,400 francs). He has to pay a fine of 400 francs and a penalty notice fee of 900 francs, plus police costs of 160 francs. The victim’s civil claim – a good 12,000 francs – was referred to the civil route.
