26th Local Journalism Forum in Ingolstadt and Eichstätt: Addressing Impact of AI, Social Division, and Audience Engagement

What can local journalism achieve in times of social division? What impact does artificial intelligence have on journalism? How can journalism find and retain younger target groups? The 26th Local Journalism Forum, which is taking place this week in Ingolstadt and Eichstätt, will address these and other questions. The organizer is the Federal Agency for Civic Education together with the Donaukurier and the KU journalism department.

Lecturers and students from the KU are also taking part in the conference, in which 150 journalists from all over Germany are taking part and which this year is entitled “Intelligent into the future: from change to departure”. The journalism students Johanna Bernklau, Luis Beyerbach and Sophie Hepach presented “7 theses on the future of journalism” together with Professor Klaus Meier. Video lecturer Michaela Petek gave insights into the topic of mobile reporting in workshops. Journalism professor Annika Sehl discussed the social function of journalism on a panel. Other students are deployed as reporters and document the workshops for the publication “Turnplate”, which is aimed at local editorial teams.

The Local Journalism Forum is the most important meeting of editors-in-chief, managing editors, publishers and other local decision-makers. The congress, initiated by the Federal Agency for Civic Education, serves as a podium to exchange ideas about trends and developments in local journalism. Every year, in cooperation with the federal headquarters, a different publishing house hosts the event, to which external guests such as politicians and scientists are also invited.
