Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The Indian Medical Association said India had lost 269 doctors in the second wave of Covid-19 that hit the country over the past two months.
On Sunday (16/5), India reported the death of 50 doctors due to the corona virus.
India also lost 748 other doctors in the first wave of Covid-19 last year.
Lack of vaccines was one of the main reasons for the deaths of these doctors.
Only 3 percent of the 269 doctors who died received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
So far, only 66 percent of India’s total medical personnel have been vaccinated.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India as of Tuesday (18/5) rose to 25,228,996 and the number of related deaths across the country stood at 278,719.
Over the past 24 hours, India reported 263,533 new cases and 4,329 deaths.
