In Brandenburg there were meetings of corona critics and vaccination opponents again on Monday evening, many of them not registered. In Potsdam, the police took personal details after a demonstration ban. There were also rallies in Berlin.

In several cities in Brandenburg, opponents of the current corona measures and vaccination opponents took to the streets again on Monday. A total of 26,000 people demonstrated against the Corona policy, as the Brandenburg Police Headquarters announced on Tuesday.

According to rbb information, there were 25 mostly unannounced meetings in Frankfurt (Oder) and the Oder-Spree, Märkisch-Oderland, Barnim and Uckermark districts. According to Police Directorate South, 21 protest events took place in the districts of Elbe-Elster, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Dahme-Spreewald, Spree-Neisse and in the city of Cottbus, of which only a few were registered, including two counter rallies. According to estimates by the Police Department South on Monday, up to 3,000 people took part in the protests in Cottbus.

The march through Cottbus was accompanied by many police officers, officers ran along the edge and also filmed. It was mostly peaceful. According to an rbb reporter, the situation threatened to escalate briefly around 8 p.m. when the police refused to let some of the crowd go through a doorway. Shouts like “traitors” or insults were loud. The situation calmed down again. Around 200 people finally stayed on the old market, but left the square at the request of the police.

In Potsdam Hundreds of people came together on Monday despite a ban on demonstrations. The police took down the personal details of numerous participants.

The police had previously forbidden the meeting on the grounds that it “posed an imminent threat to public safety and order”. In front of the Brandenburg Gate in Potsdam, the police posted an information board to inform them that the gathering, a so-called “light walk”, was not permitted and that participation was therefore considered an administrative offense. There were also several loudspeaker announcements.

Despite the ban, hundreds of people gathered in the area of Brandenburger Strasse. The police were on site with numerous emergency services. A squadron of riders was also used. Police on horseback blocked the street, preventing demonstrators from moving on.

A police spokesman emphasized that substitute meetings in other places should not take place. Nevertheless, smaller groups spread out at different places in the city center. Counter-demonstrations took place opposite the Potsdam state parliament and at the Nauener Tor.

According to the police, the identities of a total of 128 people in Potsdam were determined in the course of the evening and corresponding reports of administrative offenses were made for participating in a prohibited gathering. The police were able to “minimize dangers to public safety,” said the head of the police operation Karsten Schiewe in the evening.

Also in Frankfurt (Oder) Hundreds of people demonstrated against the corona regulations and against compulsory vaccination. According to an rbb reporter, around 800 people gathered in front of the town hall. From there the group moved through the city center. The demonstration participants were escorted by some police officers and employees of the public order office, who, however, were more concerned with regulating traffic.

At the beginning of the rally there was a loudspeaker announcement by the police that a meeting leader should report – this request was not followed. Among the participants, rbb observers found some right-wing extremists who did not reveal themselves in clothing typical of the scene. Members of the AfD such as Wilko Möller, member of the state parliament, were also there.
