Tanzanian police said 26 people were rescued after a Precision Airlines passenger plane with 43 people on board crashed into Lake Victoria as it was about to land at Bukoba airport today, and search and rescue activities are still in progress.
The AFP reported that the Precision Air plane was flying from Dar es Salaam, the financial center of Tanzania, to the northwestern city of Bukoba, when it landed in Bukoba due to bad weather and in front of the airport crashed in Lake Victoria (Lake Victoria).
Local officials said 43 people, including 39 passengers and four crew members, were aboard the crashed plane and 26 people were rescued and taken to hospital.
The police specified that the passenger plane crashed into a lake about 100 meters from the airport and rescue is underway.
Precision Aviation released a brief statement confirming that its plane crashed into the lake. Precision Aviation is a low cost airline and the largest private airline in Tanzania.
