Marie-José Roulin, deputy director of care at the HUG and in charge of the vaccination of nursing staff, tells us about the current situation. 26% of hospital staff have been vaccinated and a waiting list is in place. However, this is less than during an influenza epidemic: “During a small flu, 38% of the staff is vaccinated on average, this figure rises to 44% when the flu is very virulent”. Vaccination is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, however, delivery delays have interrupted injections.
If 1/3 of the medical staff is against vaccination in general, Marie-José Roulin is not in favor of the implementation of compulsory vaccination. A year after the onset of the crisis, an initial assessment was drawn up and the nursing staff in the intensive care units are those who have been the least sick from the virus. “People who have very close physical contact with patients have been the most affected, such as in geriatrics. In intensive care, the staff makes technical gestures. ”
