Twenty-five years ago, in the middle of Thanksgiving weekend, the tragedy of Les Éboulements shook Quebec. A commemorative mass took place on Sunday in Saint-Bernard, in Chaudière-Appalaches.
On October 13, 1997, in the afternoon, a bus carrying 44 members of the Saint-Bernard-de-Beauce Golden Age Club plunged into a ravine at Charlevoix.
The accident resulted in 44 deaths and four injuries. To date, it remains the worst car accident in Canadian history.
On Sunday, around 100 citizens gathered in the Saint-Bernard church to commemorate this tragedy.
A survivor of the accident began the ceremony by lighting a lantern.
“Today is a very exciting day. Remembering all the memories of people I knew and were friends, so it upsets us, “said Catherine Larochelle.
On 13 October there will be a second tribute to the victims.
