Commemorative activities for the 25 years of existence of the Green Brigade of Bobo-Dioulasso began yesterday, Thursday February 22, 2024. A day of sanitation in front of the company of godfather Ali Konaté marked this start.
Under the theme: “Commitment and hope”, the Association of Property Amazons of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the green brigade. According to Bibata Sanou, president of the Association of Property Amazons in the municipality of Bobo, “since its creation until today, the structure has worked for the cleanliness of the city. This is why it was appropriate to mark the occasion of 25 years of existence to salute the courage and commitment of the women who fight every day to ensure the cleanliness of the city. Bibata Sanou remembers that when the association was created in 1998, “our salary was minimal, but that did not stop us from working. Cleaning the road was an opportunity for us to support our children in their schooling and to provide food and care.” Today, she says she gives thanks to God because the salary of Amazons was increased in 2013. The association currently has 1012 women including 5 supervisors. “We are called upon in the various services to make them clean and in the event of mobilization we also go out,” she says. Before urging the authority to be more considerate towards them, “because we sacrifice our sleep to make the city clean early in the morning”.
According to Salia Sanou, head of the public health service of the commune of Bobo, “the organization of these 72 hours is to do something to try to see what has been positive during its 25 years. What were the difficulties and what progress do we need to make together to improve the Association of Amazons of Communal Cleanliness? We chose three sites for the big clean-up, the first site is at the godfather Ali Konaté, the second is at the godmother Mamou Doukouré and the third is at Djandjinaba Barro. And Mr. Sanou adds that the municipal authority has an eye on these brave women because when they have problems, they are supported at a minimum.
