Here are some new photos of Vin Diesel on the set of “Riddick 4”! The actor reveals the behind the scenes of the filming that began a few days ago…
Riddick: Furya has officially started filming! After sharing a behind-the-scenes video of what appeared to be a rehearsal for the film three weeks ago, Vin Diesel has since released two new photos of himself on set: one in his costume and the other in a vehicle in the desert. Filming officially began on August 26.
Vin Diesel first played Riddick in 2000 and reprised his breakout role in two sequels in 2004 and 2013. Now, the actor is reuniting with franchise director David Twohy for the upcoming Riddick: Furya, a film that will see the titular character return to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and imagines has been left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there, he’ll meet other Furians fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of them are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined…
“New Worlds, Furyan Friday”, wrote Vin Diesel in the caption of his first photo, which you can see below.
A few days later, another photo titled “Behind the scenes” was added to his Instagram page, revealing the behind-the-scenes, in black and white, of a scene in a vehicle in the desert.
Announced in February 2023, the feature film is directed by director David Twohy, who has already directed the previous installments: Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013).
Little success but a bet made
At the time, with a budget of 23 million, Pitch Black had only grossed 53 million at the international box office. Released 4 years later, The Chronicles of Riddick had cost 105 million dollars: the film was large-scale but only brought in 115 million dollars. However, in 2013, Vin Diesel bought the rights to the franchise and produced Riddick. With a budget of 38 million, this third installment would bring in 98 million greenbacks internationally.
While the films in the franchise have never been critical darlings, they have built a passionate following over the past two decades. With Twohy returning to direct, Riddick: Furya should be a perfect fit for the franchise, and even though it’s been over a decade since the last installment, it has the potential to win back audiences by offering an interesting continuation of Riddick’s story.
Riddick: Furya is reportedly currently filming in Germany, Spain and the UK. The rest of the cast is still unknown and no release date has been announced.
While we wait to find out more, Pitch Black can be found on VOD, The Chronicles of Riddick can be streamed on Netflix and Riddick on Prime Video.
