A 25-year-old mother from Rakitovo died on December 28 of this year. in the municipal hospital in Velingrad. Her baby was also born dead. There is currently a police presence in front of the health facility due to the tension that has arisen.
The woman was taken to the hospital in the resort town yesterday around 4.30 by her husband, she also has two other children. She had no disease, she went to counseling while pregnant. According to her husband, when the young woman was taken to the hospital, there was no doctor on duty. The Velingrad hospital wrote in its profile on the social network that it had done everything possible to save the expectant mother and the newborn.
For three hours the efforts of the doctors continued, but most likely the woman developed a rare syndrome. Our doubts are that it is a rare syndrome, Dr. Dancho Gurdev, director of the municipal hospital of Velingrad, commented to “24 Chasa”. He added that the results of the autopsy, which is underway at the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Pazardzhik Regional State Hospital, are awaited.
The Velingrad hospital notified the District Prosecutor’s Office in Velingrad and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Pazardzhik, as well as the regional health inspectorate, where a report on the case was sent. “We want to work with all institutions to really understand what caused this fatal outcome,” says the hospital’s chief physician. Dr Gurdev says that when he was called in as an anesthetist-resuscitator, the woman in the anteroom in the morning had no heart sounds or breathing. She was unconscious. The doctors managed to restore some indicators and only then proceeded to an operation and already towards the end of the operation she breathed her last.
“The tragedy is great and we want to find out if that’s what we suspect.” For more than three hours we fought for both the woman and the fetus, but unfortunately things ended in the worst way. Everything happened in a matter of minutes, ”commented Dr. Gurdev. He is adamant that this is not a medical error. Nine doctors participated in the rescue of the mother and the fetus – from the department of surgery, anesthesiology and the AG department .
The assumptions are that it is amniotic embolism and DIC syndrome, but if so – this can only be said by pathologists and medical examiners, he adds. Nearly 80% of these complications are fatal, even in large hospitals.
The relatives filed a police report and a preliminary investigation was launched. An autopsy has been performed and the exact cause of death will be clear once the results are ready. Pathocytological studies have been started, which take a week.
The Pazardzhik District Prosecutor’s Office informed that preliminary proceedings have been initiated for causing death by negligence due to ignorance or negligent performance of a legally regulated business. Immediate actions are underway on the investigation: interrogations of witnesses, two complex forensic medical examinations have been appointed, all medical documentation has been requested.
