Alstom and MÁV VAGON signed a contract worth around 3 million euros related to the renovation of the bogies of 25 Traxx-type electric locomotives belonging to the MÁV-START fleet. The aim of the project, which is expected to be realized in 3 years, is to improve the quality and reliability of the vehicles, as well as to increase the safety and efficiency of rail transport.
The works required for the renovation are carried out jointly by the two companies: MÁV VAGON is responsible for the renovation of the bogies, the disassembly and reassembly of the engines, and the repair of the bicycles, while Alstom provides the overhaul of the engines and the delivery of new axles and wheel rims. For the works, the locomotives are taken out of service one by one while the bogies are replaced and then put back into service. The bogies are disassembled, assembled, and put into operation at MÁV VAGON’s headquarters in Szolnok, while the associated engine overhaul is carried out in Hennigsdorf, Germany.
The first shipment of the engines to be renovated left Szolnok on December 12, 2023. After the repair, they are expected to arrive back in the first quarter of next year and be installed in the renovated bogies.
The Traxxs are the youngest electric locomotives in the MÁV-START fleet, they have already run more than 60 million kilometers in total.
