A fire broke out at the end of the day on Wednesday in a house in the Saint-André district, in Joigny in the Yonne. About fifty firefighters intervened on the spot to extinguish the flames which had spread to two terraced roofs. No injuries are to be deplored.
It was around 6 p.m. Wednesday November 18 that the Yonne firefighters were warned that a fire had just broken out in a house in Joigny, very close to the Saint-André church.
On the spot, 25 inhabitants had to be evacuated. “Some of them were able to benefit from family and neighborhood solidarity. The city will welcome those who find themselves without a solution, we have organized ourselves for that”, posted on Facebook in the evening the mayor of Joigny Nicolas Soret.
The flames had spread to the roof, then to two adjoining houses. Three people, inconvenienced by the fumes, were examined by the medical team of the firefighters. But it was not necessary to hospitalize them.
In total, about fifty firefighters were mobilized for the intervention which ended around midnight. Five lances, including one on a ladder, were used to extinguish the flames.
