The idea of celebrating geek pride daywas born in Spain in 2006, when blogger Germán Martínezchose this day since it coincided with the release of ‘Star Wars’ in 1977.
Geek Pride Day or Geek, as it is also known, quickly spread across the Internet and, soon after, throughout the world. One of the most remembered events to commemorate this day was the one held in Madrid when 300 people played a human Pacman.
A list of basic geek rights and responsibilities was drawn up. Rights include: “The right not to like football or any other sport” and “The right not to be ‘in the fashion’a”, and the responsibilities are: “Go to all the geek movies on opening night and buy all the geek books before anyone else.” 2008 was the first year that the Geek Pride Day in the U.S.
If you consider yourself a geek, Pay attention, because these are the ways you have to celebrate this day: cosplay meetings, crowded cinemas with sessions of superhero movies, or any other universe that can be called geek, or simply playing all day on the console, alone or with friends.
