Dubai: After Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the emirates of Sharjah, Ummul Quwain to say ‘no’ to plastic. Stores will pay 25 fil for single-use plastic bags from January 1st. The decision rests with the Executive Council of Umm al-Khuwain. The restriction was introduced before the total ban on plastics.
The municipality will be responsible for implementing the decision and formulating the plastic ban policies. They will formulate a policy that includes which plastic bags should be banned. Awareness raising programs on the harmful effects of the use of plastics will also be organized. Sharjah decided last August to charge 25 fils for single-use plastic bags. This has been implemented since October 1st. A total ban will be imposed from 1 January 2024.
