25 artists will play in Riga for seven hours: the proceeds will be donated to the people of Ukraine


Artists to take part in the charity concert “Art Against War”

April 9, Saturday, Riga St. A unique classical music marathon concert “Art Against War” will take place in Paul’s Church. More than 25 prominent Latvian artists will play for seven hours. Organists Aivars Kalējs, Kristīne Adamaite, Aigars Reinis, Ilona Birģele, Larisa Carjkova and Simona Sunepa will play. Several LNOB and LNSO artists will perform with them.


Violinist Paula Šūmane, singers Monta Martinsone and Jūlija Vasiljeva, baritone Rihards Millers, saxophonist Aigars Raumanis, guitarist Armands Alksnis, pianist Roksana Tarvide, as well as Katrīna Gupalo and others will take part in the musical charity marathon. The concert will feature a variety of music from the Baroque period to the works of contemporary authors, including compositions by the outstanding Latvian composers Lūcija Garūta, Pēteris Vasks, Rihards Dubras, Aivars Kalējs, Uģis Prauliņš and Armands Alkšnis.

As of February 24, almost 3.5 million people have left Ukraine. Most of them would like to return home to their homeland, but this is not possible due to the war. Ukrainian refugees – women and children – need everything they need every day – food, clothing, hygiene products.

All people of good will are invited to the musical charity marathon “Art Against War” on April 9 from 14.00 to 21.00 Riga St. Paul’s Church (A. Deglava Street 1). Together we will make life a little easier for people who have fled a brutal and horrific war. All funds obtained during the concert will be transferred to the fund of the association “Your Friends”.

Outstanding musicians loved by classical music lovers will take part in the charity marathon concert “Art Against War”. The organ of the church will be performed majestically and at the same time to the depths of the heart by Aivars Kalējs, Kristīne Adamaite, Ilona Birģele, Aigars Reinis, Larisa Carjkova and Simona Sunepa. For the first time, the organ and violin will be performed by the famous Ukrainian composer Miroslav Storik’s “Melody”. The concert will also feature Latvian National Opera and Ballet soloists Jūlija Vasiljeva (soprano) and Rihards Millers (baritone), singer Mont Martinson (soprano), violinists – Paula Šūmanis, Gidonas Grīnbergs, Anna Salnit, Irina Vilegžaņins (cello) ), Aigars Raumani (saxophone), Roxan Tarvidi and Kaspars Bumbišs (piano duo), Armands Alksnis (electric guitar), Katrīna Gupalo and others.

The musicians will perform favorite and well-known compositions by JS Bach, VA Mozart, F. Schubert, K. Sensans, E. Griga, as well as music by Latvian composers Lūcija Garūta, Pēteris Vasks, Rihards Dubras, Aivars Kalējs, Uģis Prauliņš and Armands Alkšnis.

During the day, Riga St. There will be a charity fair in the courtyard of Paul’s Church, where you can buy works by craftsmen and designers. All funds raised at the fair will be transferred to the fund of the association “Your Friends”. Visitors will be treated to warm tea and coffee.

Along with the concert, there will also be Peace Art Workshops dedicated to the skill of creating peace within a person and in mutual relations. The program is available at www.makslapretkaru.lv.

In the evening, thousands of candles will be lit in the church in memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine.

To attend the concert “Art Against War”, you need to buy a ticket – a donation worth 5 to 30 EUR (with the ticket you will be able to enter the church several times during the day during breaks between compositions). Admission to the concert with a Ukrainian passport is free.
