On a hot day on August 25, 2024, GKS Katowice faced the Polish Champion team – Jagiellonia Białystok – on their own pitch. Coach Rafał Górak decided not to make any changes to the starting eleven compared to the previous GKS match. Two nice moments took place before the match. Dawid Kudła received the distinction for his 100th match in the colors of GieKSy. In addition, the Club officially congratulated Jagiellonia Białystok for winning the Polish Championship. The souvenir was given to the guests’ sports director Łukasz Masłowski. The match started fantastically for GKS Katowice, because in the 2nd minute the Katowice team took advantage of Jagiellonia’s defensive error and Adrian Błąd struck accurately after a pass from Bartosz Nowak. The stadium erupted with joy. In the following minutes, the guests took the floor, but from time to time the Katowice team ventured into the penalty area, firing dangerous shots.
Unfortunately, in the 18th minute, a cross from the right sector fell to the head of Afimico Pululu, who finished the ball and tied the score. GKS could have responded in the next action. Adam Zrel’ák received the ball in the penalty area and cleverly passed it to Adrian Błąd. He hit it hard, but unfortunately over the crossbar. A moment later, Alan Czerwiński reported the need for a substitution. Marcin Wasielewski appeared on the pitch in his place. In the 27th minute, Dawid Kudła made an excellent save, and then Wasielewski blocked Pululu’s shot. GKS had another chance when Sławomir Abramowicz miscalculated the ball’s flight path and allowed Zrel’ák to create a situation. Unfortunately, our striker was offside earlier. Before the end of the first half, Błąd sent a strong pass into the penalty area to Grzegorz Rogala, who was closing the action, but he hit it over the goal.
The teams returned to the second half with a 1:1 draw. At the start of the second half, Borja Galán greeted the pitch, replacing Bartosz Nowak. In the 54th minute, the Jagiellonian penalty area boiled over. Zrel’ák eventually got to the ball, but his shot was saved by Abramowicz. Galán had another opportunity exactly 10 minutes later. However, his technical shot was stopped by the goalkeeper, reacting well on the line. Finally, in the 73rd minute, Galán struck from outside the penalty area. The ball bounced off Mateusz Kowalczyk and went into the net, restoring GieKSa to the lead. In the last minutes, GKS Katowice had two more good chances. One in a counterattack, but Sebastian Milewski did not see Mateusz Marzec, and the second after an action by Jakub Arak, who unfortunately made a bad pass. In the last minute, Oskar Repka finished off his opponent, scoring for 3:1 after a cross.
